Yes, Before Android Things the Google was working on other project called Google Brillo. As per a source, Google Brillo was the Lightweight version of Android introduced a year and a half ago, but the developers intended to use all the Significant Features of Android and have the Best Android Experience. So Google introduced Android Things, a new OS to build IoT Devices.

As per the Company, it says “it incorporated the feedback from Project Brillo to include familiar tools such as Android Studio, the Android Software Development Kit (SDK), Google Play Services, and Google Cloud Platform.”

Google has introduced the Developer Preview of Android Things. Using this Preview, Developer will be able to get Regular Security Fixes, OS updates, and other key updates.

Apart from this, Company is going to introduce Weave Platform in Android Things, by which user will be able to connect to cloud services and to interact using Google Assistant. As per resource, Philips Hue and Samsung SmartThings are already using Weave, while other companies like Belkin WeMo, LiFX, Honeywell, Wink, TP-Link, and First Alert are also focusing on accepting the Platform in near future. Google is focusing on connecting two platforms, Weave and Next Weave in order to provide better security and reliability.

As per the current scenario, weave SDK supports various smart devices like light bulbs, smart plugs and switches, and thermostats. In order to built smart devices, Google’s Android Things is supporting various hardware development kits like Intel Edison, NXP Pico, and Raspberry Pi 3.
